I know. It really looks great.

Just got back from having the Bento box of life. Pork cutlet was juicy, tender, and delicious. Not pictured are the spinach/potato salad dish, the miso soup chock-full of tofu and honshimeji mushrooms, and the brown sugar pudding with the hojicha at the end. Suffice it to say,I will be returning. And I think I’m having a very light supper tonight

I need that box in my life.

I would very much like the first dish (triple egg, that is so primal). Also, the dobin mushi. In fact, I want to follow you around and murmur to the waiter, "“I’ll have what he’s having.”

Slimier than a used car salesman on Labor Day weekend.

Sashimi Sampler - Kanpachi, Salmon, Bluefin, Toro
This was fucking phenomenal, it was so soft it was like eating fish butter.

Agedashi Tofu

Live Uni Udon
I finally got to try this and unfortunately it was a major disappointment and the only miss of the night. For $30 bucks I got maybe two pieces of uni in a watered down insipid broth. The udon was they only saving grace. Stick with the uni udon at kinjiro.

goddamn this restaurant may be my favorite restaurant in the city.

The sashimi wasn’t cheap at $75 but I think it was worth it. The kettle rice was $30 i believe.

was that an actual item on the menu or specials board, or did you just ask chef matt for an omakase sashimi platter? I was thinking about a december visit to Sushi Tanaka, but all of a sudden a return visit to Raku seems more enticing.

First, nice pix of some great dishes.

Second, asajime chicken - is this a new variety of bird?

Third, sea urchins as a group think you’re an asshole.

It’s not on the menu or the specials board but the sampler is comprised of the sashimi on the specials board, ask for the sashimi moriawase.

@Chowseeker1999 gave a good description of asajime, “local free-range chickens dispatched the same day, every day”

Tell your lil sea urchin buddies i’m coming after their babies and deporting them straight into my mouth.

Hi @PorkyBelly,

Bummer about the Udon. It looks nothing like the Udon we got. I have a feeling their sourcing and idea to push the item is at fault. I know some restaurants already have their seasonal live uni off the menu already (with Winter rolling in). They should just not offer it unless they were fully confident in the quality.

The rest of your meal looks fantastic as usual.

Thanks. I translated “asajime niwatori” and it translated to “hands-on chicken.” My Chinese characters/kanji is shit. But I get the jist of the description. Really fresh birds of the utmost quality.

How far in advance would one have make a resi for a four?

Uni are like some overbearing personalities. Prickly as Hell, hard to approach, small gonads. And you eat’m up anyway.

No more than a week, less if you’re going on a weekday.
