Any opinions on either of the new Melrose steak frite places, L'Assiette or Le Relais de l'Entrecote?

B/c they had a Blackboard Eats thing about it last wk (::hangs head in shame::).

@Nemroz: Oy, thanks for taking one for the team. Glad I read this b/f I tried it myself…

I would’ve opted for the 1.5 servings of steak.

Why not? Do you only order the item that a particular restaurant specializes in?

I don’t go to Langer’s for their fish & chips if that’s what you’re asking, and I don’t buy hamburgers from Tacos Leo either.

All joking aside, if I’m going to a specialist, yes I am only buying what that place is specializing in (exceptions exist).

But I do get pollo at Dino’s Fucking Burgers

I did say exceptions exist =P

Does anybody actually go to Dino’s for their burgers?

Is there good cassoulet in LA?

Bestia once did it, but I never got to try it in their early days. I wish they would bring it back.

w/o answering the question “is it good or not”, LQ does it on occasion and I’ve seen it once @ Republique (with a matching price tag).

But that is limiting yourself and basically means you go to a different restaurant every time you’re in the mood for a particular dish. And what if the person(s) you’re with don’t want the specialty of the house?

It offends me for a chef at a restaurant above a certain price point to just coast along on one highly-publicized “signature” dish and not care about the rest of the menu.

It’s wrong, all wrong.

I’m good with one trick ponies but that one trick better be damn good. I don’t even know if the chef is good, I just know he can make steak, fries, and sorrel soup. Evidently he can’t make cassoulet.

Thinking about it some more, I wasn’t impressed with my foie dish either. Maybe I should stick to my own advice.

I would have to say, “non!”

LQ’s I had once and it was a mess.

Has anyone tried Cassoulet Night at Lucques (I haven’t myself)?

What!? When is this night? I trust S. Goin completely with my beans

Can’t find an entry for 2016 (I admittedly did not look very hard), but here’s a quick blurb about the 2015 event.

So I presume the next will be late winter/early spring 2017.

I’m going to stop being lazy and try to make it again.

This year’s was on March 6th. Looks like it’s the last Sunday in Feb or first Sunday in March.

As if on cue, I recived an email this AM, that LQ is doing Cassoulet “Toulousian” every Friday and Sat in November

Hopefully will better than the one I had a few years ago. I think I overstated it as “a mess.” It just wasn’t France. But decent enough for Cali.

That’s too bad. :frowning: I really enjoyed the dish, but I do imagine it’s hard to be a bit of a one-trick pony…

What a shame. We’ve had many great meals there with various friends and family. We loved that place.
