Best in Thai Town / Little Armenia

My capsicum tolerance is very high.

Sapp #4 boat noodle soup. Fabulous. Plus it’s light enough that I can bang-bang.

Pa Ord (Hobart) #1 tom-yum egg noodles (large, $8.50): great, like a sour version of boat noodles

crispy pork with Chinese broccoli (side dish, $12): great version of this dish, pork was so crisp it was hard to get a fork in it

Mostly Thai customers. Ordered “hot,” both dishes seriously spicy. I’ll be back.

dunno wtf happened to Hoy Ka - while their noodles are still delicious, they have seriously toned down their spice level. I got their hoy ka noodles level 9 and still had to add copius amounts of spice.

I go to pa ord and order “spicy” and end up crying in my noodles.

I went back to Pa Ord on Tuesday after a few years off. really miss it… tom yum was amazing… red seafood flat noodle soup was less amazing.

Went back to Pa Ord for lunch. Shrimp paste fried rice was the way I like it, funky and spicy.

Pork larb, excellent. Huge portion, much bigger than it looks in the photo.

Given the style of the place, I hoped the bamboo shoot would be the funky fermented stuff, but it was not. Nice and spicy but otherwise just a generic pork stir-fry.

It’s real out here on Insta. Watch out that your favorite resto isn’t tracking your moves lol

Hanglay from Spicy BBQ is worth living for.

Bonus, spicy seafood in coconut sauce with awesome white mushroom.

Any new thai places in the last couple years folks are aware of that are worth trying? It seems like the Thai food boom has slowed in LA, haven’t really heard of anything new recently, but you never know when there’s a great new place only in the Thai papers for a while…

Because you’ve had the ones we have?

I don’t see how that’s at all implicit in my question. I can heroically manage to be interested in new things while still continuing to try things that exist (unless, of course, nobody tried Bestia until they had tried every single Italian restaurant in Los Angeles).

Kudos then. Sorry. I enjoy crusading against people’s need for new shiny things and trends. That doesn’t sound like you.

Back at our first thai town love in Covid outdoor styles

Not as spicy and aromatic as i remember it . Medium wasn’t cutting it so I loaded up more. Still a tremendous bowl of noodle

Crab rolls are super fun

Seafood and pork Yum Woon Sens light and refreshing with a big kick

Bang bang at Bhan Kanom before hitting Silom market
We always get ruammit, pangchi, pandan custard and ice creams

Some Thai tea or coffee with the crushed ice and a bowl of jade noodles is a perfect summer meal.

So thru DM’s I got a little more info…

The plan was to make it a Khao Gaeng (Rice and Curry)
(In Southern Thailand these rice and curry stands are prominent a plate of rice and choose between 1-3 different curries and dishes)

But with the current Pandemic they feel it’s not safe for a Khao Gaeng concept.

It will be fast and authentic but will not be a typical Pad Thai/Pad See Ew.

Was it gonna be like Ganda? I still miss that place (though Ganda was more central Thai if I’m remembering correctly).

Reminiscent of meat and threes in the South.

There is a new market that has popped up the past two weekends in the parking lot of Nuad Royal Thai Spa at 5300 Hollywood Blvd. Everything is limited to $5 or less, in fact that is the unofficial name of the market (ตลาดเสาร์ห้า). Everything we had on Saturday was way above average and downright delicious. Blew the vendors at Wat Thai of Los Angeles out of the water.

Damn lucky! Would love to see a report on the different vendors or what stall serves what.
That lot is also right across from Ruen Pair, Bhan Kanom Thai, and Pa Ord for even more Thai food.

There is also a night market at Silom Market correct?

When I visited in November it was a grilled skewer vendor that expanded to serve rad na and pad see ew. It has a night market feel, but was just them at that time. Have not been back since as outdoor dining was closed down soon after and only recently come back.

Thanks for the info! I wish it was open at night. Will definitely check this place out.
