I’ve been looking forward to trying Attari for a number of years now. We finally did on a recent evening, and then we followed that up with a trip to Saffron Rose afterward. And I definitely thoroughly enjoyed both of them. I thought that our sandwich and eggplant dip appetizer (and a little complimentary soup) at Attari were all delicious. And then our dessert across the street at Saffron Rose really hit the spot after that. : ) (The chocolate ice cream was particularly good – very dense, creamy consistency. Yum!)
So I’m now 2-for-2 on great meals recommended in this thread!
Funny, I have found that the white loaf at Kee Wah Bakery http://www.keewah.usbabker is not so far off from the Pepperidge Farms sandwich white thin (the bread I grew up with!)
Also, if you are in Koreatown, go to the Galleria Market on Olympic and off to the side in the market, they have a small sushi place that makes incredible california rolls and, really nice bowls of sashimi over rice. Love that place and not just for their green tea kit kats or giant bags of pickled ginger : )
I finally found the Atomic Pub at the Playa Vista WF. Thanks for the tip about the oysters and directions.
They are indeed $1 everyday. Not very well shucked (lots of shell) and they’re from Mexico and inconsistent, but hey, they’re a $1! I don’t mind adding spitting a bit of shell and adding extra horseradish for that price.
And they have vegan sushi made with black rice, which is pretty awesome. Four different kinds, $5 each. This is the firecracker. Not bad at all, but I’ll have them hold the decorative Vegenaise sauces next time.
In Chinese the sign says “Hong Kong Wonton”. This is THE dish to get here. They do have a typical huge menu of everything and a lot of filler. I wonder, “Why not tightened up the menu and focus on a few good things, the Wonton Noodle Soup is solid, maybe add another noodle dish and soup or porridge for the Grandmas/Grandpas?”. With good marketing, you bring in more people.
The wontons here are perfect! I like it with a little chilli oil. Well known by Chinese locals from Chinatown/Echo Park/Lincoln Heights/El Sereno, there no reason why say some of the Burgerlords customers can’t also enjoy a bowl, again marketing.
$6.25 for a 10 inch pie. I am happy with just cheese, pepperoni, or mozza/basil. The meatier ones cost more. Been serving Highland Park and NELA for a LONG TIME. The owner/founder from the Motherland.
The fish tostadas are TUNA and only $3. Why tuna and not the typical cheap white fish? That is a story that the owner will tell you. You will not find a mariscos truck serving up tuna besides Lechugas. El Sereno and Lincoln Heights peeps know, but now you do.
I was debating this, but ultimately it will bring some more business to a family business.
I consider Lechugas up there with Mariscos Jaliscos for a mariscos truck.
Not really pizza, more like flatbreads but - killer.
No dried herbs, everything is fresh. The Lahmajoun? Fresh parsley, fresh red pepper and tomato, ground beef. They make their dough every day. $1 a pizza. (Size of a small dinner plate.) The hubster has been given tons of Lahmajoun (we have REALLY nice neighbors) and he likes it, but would not go out of his way for it. The stuff from Artos? Loves it.
The spinach and feta “pizza” with red onion? $1.50. Excellent. My go to fav.
And you can get their three cheese pizza as a wrap (i.e. topped with tons of fresh veggies of your choice and rolled) for $2. Very tasty and my second fav : )
