I generally don’t like lavender, but ice cream seems to suppress the floral element.
December 2019 update -
Just back from the Los Feliz Costco (SoCal) where they had the vanilla beans in the glass tubes in the spice aisle. 5 really long beans, lovely dark color, organic - 5 for $15.99.
I bought a tube to give to relatives as part of my “Do it yourself” holiday gift kit, planning to give them the recipe for extract. But I’m now having a bit of buyers remorse - should I have just gotten grade B via mail order, which is what I’ve used for vanilla extract in the past? That said - they are beautiful and really look like a gift.
That is a pretty good price considering how much vanilla prices have gone up
Yes, I think I am going to keep them. Online I can get 10 small grade B beans for vanilla making for $20 - which for me would be dandy but, as a gift? I think I will stick with this. Thank you for your feedback!
What is the provenance of any of these vanilla beans?
The ones from Costco are actually from Madagascar. “Product of Madagascar” on the package.
