Expense account dinner on the Westside

How about Georgie’s? Or Melisse.

yuck yuck indeed

I’d skip Georgie unless you’re there to make a deal or entertain clients. The place itself is great but the food isn’t quite there yet imo. Melisse is fine dining so definitely go that route if you’re looking for white tablecloth stuff

Any Gwen thoughts?

I went a couple weeks ago. VERY good, but it ain’t cheap.

I’ll try and post a short review soon.

Rustic canyon - good food but not an expense account/celebratory type joint IMO

I really want to try Gwen, even though it looks totally over priced for what you get. For this dinner though, the location won’t work.

I can relate

My recent meals at Ivy at the Shore have been stellar. Menu offers many options, food is delicious, portions generous and service has been outstanding. You and your guests will be immediately offered a complimentary glass of champagne. I think it is a great restaurant for those looking for a fun vibe with excellent food. The patio can be quite noisy and tables too close. The main dining room is my preference. Bonus points for the box of homemade chocolate chip cookies when you and your guests depart.

I will now demonstate my age, or degree of luddite-ness. Or both.
I was trying to type “hashtag masochisticgourmand” but the symbol for hashtag lead to BOLDFACE
How do we hashtag without BOLDFACING here at FTC?

If you try to type a hashtag at the beginning of a new line you need to start with a space

[/quote]I don’t think it will get there… imo . I suspect - unlike Scarpetta - they found a celebrity chef willing to stamp his name on a place that will conform to hotel customer’s needs. Not a bad thing. But don’t expect culinary genius.

So dinner at Yazawa was pretty awesome last night. The meat quality obviously speaks for itself, but what really impressed me was the seasoning on the meats. Most cuts of beef were prepared very simply…salt, pepper, and sometimes sesame oil. Not groundbreaking stuff, but the balance was just perfect every time. Nothing was overly salted, nothing was bland. And even though they give you a few dipping sauces, these cuts didn’t need any sauces to be enjoyed.

The wine list was pretty annoying though. I get it, it’s a high end place in Bev Hills, but how about adding some wines under $200/bottle? They have a fairly small list and average bottle price is probably in the ~$350 range. Did manage to find a really solid 2005 St. Julien for $275.

Service was really good and they cooked every thing for us. Dinner for 4 with 2 bottles of wine and 4 shots of Yamazaki 18 came in at a whopping $1800 with tip and tax. Not sure I would come back here on my own dime but for an expense account dinner, it was a great choice.

Only pic I took

Nice, did you try the garlic wagyu rice?

No we ordered the Yazawa special rice instead, which was fantastic.

I BYO’d wine on my two visits. Don’t recall corkage but at those prices it is worth it at any corkage. To assuage my guilt I drank some expensive beer and sake as well. I love that place but it is tres cher.

that would definitely be the way to go to keep the costs somewhat reasonable.

Way to work that expense account!!! Kudos.

I like the food and drinks at Cassia very much. As Mark Twain said, “That’s what makes horse racing”. The noise issue is easy to get around; just sit outside. As a bonus, not only are dogs permitted; they are brought a bowl of water.
