CNY lunch at JZhou.

Really good. Their seafood tanks are loaded.

Plenty of King crab for those interested.

Off their special CNY menu:

Squab. Always perfect here. Best in town.

Steamed soup of chicken, dried scallops, and “maca”

Steamed fish

Really tender sautéed pea leaves

Dried oysters, pork tongue, and “facai”. The facai had a great silky texture. Like silk vs linen when you compare it to even the better versions in town.

Braised pork belly. Different from the Shanghainese kind but still really good.

VACA in Costa Mesa.

Flavors are very legit here.

Jamon Iberico Cinco Jotas- the good stuff

Thanks for the pics, especially of the 5J. How’s the socarrat on that paella, btw?

Damn, I need to get to BC… I have tried several times, and it’s always randomly closed somehow.

It looks like a very “white person” place though lol =P I haven’t had a chimichanga in a decade it seems like.

Why is everyone at Pailin suddenly?? Not a bad thing though haha

What is the first dish you have pictured?

Been thinking of starting a White Person Food thread based on my Saturday series:

Unbalanced, poorly conceptualized porchetta dip at Knead & Co. Looks nice though, and not completely horrible, but no Gjusta butcher.

Clark Street Bread croissant. Intensely flakey and light, though less buttery than I like compared to my favorite croissants at Chaumont. But a pretty great croissant by general standards go.

Saturday Biscuits and Gravy with chili verde and green chorizo gravy over jalapeno cheddar biscuits from Sqirl:

The final crab and shrimp taco with chipotle bearnaise at Guerilla Tacos. So much butter, and beautiful seafood, nailed the tortilla. Glorious taco.

Dined at Ruen Pair later, but forgot to take photos haha

spicy shrimp balls

i’ll be doing a full report today since it’s the restaurant we go to most often.

wait… i have a criminal lack of OC pics from there, is it a bad idea to rip them from the internet?

have you tried the fish balls as a curry with sticky rice there? next level

The octopus and chimichangas keep me coming back. Definitely the best dishes I have had from there so far. Some of the other dishes are hit or miss. The duck taco was disastrous.

will try that next time, thanks.

The larb tod at Pailin is incredible. Perfectly fried, so light and delicious.

I just adore referring to it as larb meatballs…or better yet, deep fried larb meatballs =)

I think Vito’s pizza (cheese slice fresh out of the oven) late night yesterday for me.

Nothing quite like a slice of pie when it’s 80 degrees in February!

As a word to the wise, you might want to consider participating in our very active monthly Weekend Rundown report.
