Our bellies are full and our wallets empty, but mostly pumpkin pie season is over. My son and I tasted 25 pies around LA from November through last weekend.

A very memorable pie and one of our favorites, with salted whipped cream and candied pumpkin seeds.

A trek but well worth it. Took the pie to go, but hope to return to sample the rest of their menu.

Drove an hour for this pie and it was well worth it. An award-winning pie specialist, their menu is ever changing and pumpkin options alone could include Pumpkin Chai, Pumpkin Whopper, Caramel Pumpkin, Old Fashion Pumpkin. Recommend to reserve in advance. On our visit Pumpkin Whopper was being sold. Hope to try the Chai on a future visit.

Was excited about this one, but we were not fans of the mix of Pumpkin and Oreo crust. It was actually one of the only pies that we opted not to finish.

This one is for comic relief. It looks like my pie became mummified! I ordered slices from a full pie that already had a whipped cream cover.

We really enjoyed the mini-pies from Atticus.

In late January as I called around the city looking for pumpkin pies, the slices and choices dwindled. Many said to try back in October. However a few said I could still special order a full pie.

For my son’s birthday and our (final?) pie we chose République. It was very good, though I was disappointed it didn’t come as described: “whimsical 9-inch pumpkin pie topped with toasted marshmallows” and pictured (#8) in TimeOut. We improvised and our older son insisted his brother’s slice be accessorized with candles matching his birthday.

I rarely feel the word “epic” is appropriate. In this case, it’s truly the best choice. Well done on this epic undertaking! (And happy belated birthday to your son!)

Now, the inquiring public (or at least one member of said public) wants to know what will be your next project?

I think @VeniceRunner and @Chowseeker1999 need to collaborate on a FTC “bang bang”

And if they did, they might break the Internet.

Have you had the frozen Sara Lee?

I was like you until I was fed one, then again the person reheating may skew final results.

Maybe for your 2018 pumpkin pie quest, @VeniceRunner?

@ElsieDee you made my day! Was just thinking it was time to post, as Costco have already put out pumpkin pies (too early?).

I’ve been remiss in sharing the results of our 2017-18 Pumpkin Pie Quest. My son is going to join the conversation and post the results (hint: last year the pie from Bouchon Beverly Hills (RIP) blew our socks off).

He is thinking of starting an Instagram account to share all our past favorites, as we continue to search for new pumpkin pies or ones that have eluded us in the past (pre-order deadlines, Thanksgiving only, etc.).

Our new Instagram account Pumpkin Pie Quest documents past conquests as we search for the new and delicious pie.

This year’s hit list includes:
The Pie Bar in Long Beach - check!
Know Reality - so many varieties of pumpkin pie we can’t keep count
I Like Pie in Claremont
Dominique Ansel
Lodge Bread (after denying they would, they made a pie last year that quickly sold out before we could get there)
Sweet Rose Creamery (does pumpkin ice cream pie count?)
Larder at Tavern
27th Street Bakery
Proof Bakery (last year they made a pumpkin cheesecake, so we left with an apple pie)
Cassell’s
Rye Goods
Milk Bar
Sycamore Kitchen

Looking for more suggestions!

Atticus recently went through a owner and baker change, loved their pie recently (Although I haven’t tried their pumpkin yet!)

Oh good to know. Thank you @Dommy In our quest to try ALL the pies in the season we don’t usually repeat, unless the pie changes. Huckleberry’s pumpkin pie looks a bit different from last year’s. So we will try to stop by Atticus and try the new version.

Missing from our master 2018-19 hit list is the highly anticipated Tartine Manufactory at the Row in DTLA. As soon as anyone has the scoop on opening day and their pie, please do tell!

Pumpkin ice cream definitely counts. I don’t like pumpkin pie, but I really like the pumpkin gelato pie at Pizzeria Mozza.
