Hi @Sgee,

LOL! Nice.

I was going to say, where in the world were they serving that poke with Born Nama Muroku that we were just discussing a few days ago?! :stuck_out_tongue:

I was in Chatsworth last weekend for Horace Panter’s art exhibit at the Valley Relics Museum and decided to try Sarig’s Bakery and Cafe in Northridge. Specializing in Syrian cuisine, their baked goods ranged in price from $1.25 to $4.25. The saj was like the quesadilla’s Middle-Eastern cousin, filled with stretchy cheese and zaatar. The Bermuda Triangle, a boreg with slightly tangy spinach, was luscious, retaining the textural integrity of the spinach leaves. I topped off my meal with fattoush, which was slightly spartan with lettuce, tomatoes, onion, cucumber, and crisp pita chips. It was the perfect salad to combat the heat. Next time I’ll order it with the dressing on the side since there was a gigantic pool of the deliciously tart dressing at the bottom of my takeout container. Sarig’s also serves sandwiches, breakfast, pizza, and ajarski (gondola pizza).

I thought I’d experiment with making veggie cemitas this afternoon. Unfortunately, Northgate didn’t have the sesame-seed-encrusted buns and papalo, but I was able to find the rest of the ingredients easily. I must say I was pretty happy with my first attempt - although it needs some fine tuning. I substituted a Boca Burger patty for the meat, although I might try a portobello mushroom next time. I used this Serious Eats recipe: Pueblan-Style Cemita Sandwiches Recipe

Sushi Tsujita–kaisendon premium sashimi bowl and accompanying soup. $25 and a steal. Hidden from view is a lovely piece of otoro. Other highlights within the bowl included a marinated scallop, the best salmon sashimi I have had in years, and kampachi. Love this place.

Yes. Next time I will try the platinum. There was a slight delay so they brought over a complimentary tamago which was lovely.

Went to Wexler’s Santa Monica 11am Sunday(first minute pastrami available). Got the MacArthur Park. Agree with poster who noted greatly improved rye bread. I included a picture, post-bite, to show that the bread was soft enough to compress. The crust had a good crunch. Not Langers, but nothing is. The pastrami was delicious, and spicier than other pastrami I’ve had in LA. Also had a sturgeon bagel, but that didn’t survive for photography. Still as I remember sturgeon in Manhattan in the late '50’s early '60’s. I’m a fan.
