Last Minute Turkey?

Hey, amigos – long time chowhounder (but not frequent poster) here…nice to see the familiar faces over here.

Suddenly I’m doing a very small thxgvg this year. I think I last cooked a turkey in 2004. My parameters are that there are only 4 of us, and I’m by far the biggest eater of the bunch, and I don’t want to eat leftover turkey for the next 2 weeks. So I’m hoping to find a smallish bird, chop 'er in half and just freeze half for a future date. This may or may not be a successful strategy.

Anyway: I’ll shop monday morning. From the city – Baron’s meats in the former Drewes space? Or drive over to Berkeley Bowl? Looking for any advice. Cheers!

Consider this:

I first made this in '98 and I still love it. It was part of a Sunset magazine SW Thanksgiving. The hardest part for me has always been finding a small enough one.

Hopscotch posted on Facebook that they’ll have some fresh BN Ranch turkeys.
