There’s a $5 to $6 surcharge tacked on those types of gift cards. It’s $5 to $6 that person originally didn’t have to spend if the intended business didn’t go cashless.

It’s not like any business that serves poor people is going to go cashless. Far more likely they’ll be cash-only, like many of the places where you can get a taco for $2.50.

If somebody is willing to spend twice that at the kind of place that goes cashless, 5-6% extra shouldn’t bother them.

Having cash also helps when one loses their cards or forgets to bring them, unless that target business is cashless.

That’s not much of a reason to force businesses to incur significant expenses if they prefer not to.
