I was so fixated on the taste and texture of the pastrami, the bread was an afterthought.
Sounds like Katz
The rueben pastrami is pretty fuckin delicious though.
So do I. It’s been awhile since I had Coco, but there is/was an off-putting bitterness to their curry.
Dinner at Rosaline last weekend.
Grilled avocado with scallops and crispy quinoa. Flavor bomb.
Seafood rice. Basically an uni and scallop risotto. Loved it and I certainly ate more than my “assigned” portion
Cake with goat’s milk and guava fozen yogurt. Delicious and loved the bright tropical flavor from the guava, which paired well with the warm cake.
Sergio was in attendance manning the grills.
Inaba
The worse part about eating here is having to wait for the tempura to cool off before putting it in your mouth.
eggplant
sweet potato
pumpkin
kisu - japanese whiting
shrimp
battera
unagi no kabayaki - grilled live eel from japan, sansho berries, tsukemono, liver soup
haven’t seen fresh unagi since i had it at iroriya. Unagi was sweet, fatty, tender, flaky, with charred skin, eat it with some sanscho berries to cut through the fat. Very good eel, but probably won’t order it again at $60. Curious what the going rate is for live eel from japan, is $60 a fair price?
unagi liver soup
hachiya persimmon #friedisafruit
more fair than $125 for a seabass or $10 for onions.
Somebody needs to create a visual price reasonableness chart
Hot damn! Battera alert!
Or at least a reasonable courtroom-sketched facsimile…
Redstraw Tea Bar is soft opening in Westfield Century City (near Din Tai Fung; no Eater love thus far)…
I tried the signature Redstraw Milk Tea (black tea, organic milk) with boba. You can choose 0%-100% sweetness (I tried 50%).
Decent. I’d go back and try other flavors, like sakura green tea.
I suppose there’s no turning back once raw onion goes above $1.25 eh?
I’ve never had the machaca at Anaya do they use cured beef?
i’ve never had the hachiya persimmon there before, only the fuyu. the hachiya was like biting into a crispy, fire roasted marshmallow or yam, delicious.
I swear Anaya can do no wrong.
I’ve never gotten the same thing twice and have love everything.
Happy hour with friends at Taps tonight. Ceviche, spinach and artichoke dip, smoked chicken wings, and fritto misto…and 4 “Jedi Mind Trick”/House cocktail of the day (today, it was a bourbon-based apple pie cocktail). I am appropriately happy.
