The pastrami sandwich from the deli at Vicente Foods in Brentwood is a nice alternative. It’s sliced pretty thin but piled high and warm on nice rye bread.
I like the pastrami sandwich at Label’s Table on Pico east of Beverly. Used to recommend it highly as an amazing bargain when it went for $8.50 not too long ago; now it is in the low teens (accompanied by a small cole slaw or potato salad) like most of the other delis, though there is almost always a discount (for two) available on Groupon.
Was it nosh who had first talked about the pastrami at Vicente Foods on CH? I agree, it’s a very respectable sandwich, and, for those of us on the westside, WAAAAY more convenient (esp since the hrs of the market itself are longer).
This is an example of the problem I have going to restaurant and NOT getting the dish they are known for. Yesterday at Brent’s, despite REALLY wanting to try the @wienermobile recommended corned beef hash, I felt like I would be missing out on the Black Pastrami reuben, so I couldn’t go through with it. Now, if I were back in my 20s, I’d get both. I tried to nudge my wife into getting it yesterday, with the intention of eating 1/2 of hers
I would have this problem at Langers too.
For me most things at Brent’s are B+ in my limited experience but a lot at that level so I’d mix it up more there than say langers. Sure I like a Reuben and fries at Brent’s and the fries which come w it make ordering something else harder. If I lived closer id probably go more often. But I’m not driving to northridge for it. For me Nate n als is a better all around deli cuz it’s similar and closer.
Next time just include a side order of Corned Beef Hash, It’s just one patty (no egg) and goes great with everything…
Brents is my favorite deli, not just in Los Angeles, but anywhere. The Black Pastrami Rueben is amazing. Next time try it with the curly fries - just for a few more calories And dont forget an angioplasty for dessert! (as Seinfeld would say)
No… but how about these?
At Langers I used to do curbside pickup to get a #19, side of CBH, and then go home and cook up some eggs.
No problem.
Oh my gosh just heard that Katz’s is opening a second location in Brooklyn, could LA be next?
P. Looking at this getting ready for lunch. Looks like brent’s does good work with those onion rings too.
meatloaf melt?
Actually Tuna Melt…
not in my repertoire!
but the rings and pastrami are!
