The Hungry Cat, mentioned above, is pretty great and seems like it would fit the bill quite well. And tbh Blue Palms, which is literally connected to the Fonda, has great beer, good liquor, and totally adequate pub food. Or you could start at El Flamin’ on Sunset and walk to Blue Palms for a drink.

I think Blue Palms is perfect, actually, because it’s so stress free. Park once.
We did end up at Blue Palms, mostly for convenience (and the need to be near Will Call as well as watch the LONG line dwindle). Fairly large menu, mediocre pub fare, watered down drinks. But it was easy.
