Or we could get a table near him/her and then give knowing winks throughout the night. His/her friends will be like, “Who ARE those weirdos???”

Alas, no party to crash. My party of six turned into eight and then ten and than back to eight again (don’t ask). Nanbankan was packed! Sweetest lady told me that any party over four would be problematic that night, but was so sweet and thanked me profusely for coming in and invited me to come back on a weeknight. I think I will.

So, our party of eight wound up at Shin Sen Gumi. Was it amazing? No. Did I get what I expected? Yes. Were my friends happy? Ecstatic. And we ate and laughed and talked for a couple of hours and I could not ask for a better way to spend my birthday eve.And with a friend’s damn near perfect home baked salted caramel cupcakes.

I’m not that bothered. My “real” bday dinner is this Thursday at n/naka. I’m very grateful.

Side note: we escaped the Senator Payne escape room in 46 minutes and three seconds! Yay!

Anyone know a soba specialist on sawtelle?

Specialist? Not that I know of.

Morinoya does a respectable version. If it were not for the specialists (look to Torrance), Morinoya’s would be considered really good.

Yabu on Pico has pretty decent soba.

Agree - had the niku udon last weekend. It was really good.

Kind of for real…I ordered a chicken sandwich from this place over the weekend and it came half raw… they should remove the item from their menu if they literally have no idea how to cook it.

That used to be a great sandwich :frowning: last time I went it came with 4 or 5 tiny pieces of chicken coated with a mountain of batter to make then look bigger. Of course as soon as I picked it up it fell apart.

Literally absurd… yes. Too bad because the pimento cheese and the bun actually tasted alright, but it seems that the cooks there couldn’t cook fried chicken properly to save their lives…
