Tsuru Ton Tan Udon Noodle Brasserie (Manhattan)

The first US outpost of this Japanese chain is located in the space formerly occupied by Union Square Café. Mr. RBI and I had lunch there last month on his birthday. Here’s my blog post about it.

The place is just ok IMO… however have not been able to find a better alternative in the city. Btw there is another branch in the works midtown on 48th

I thought it was okay plus (and we both posted about it in the same Chowhound thread). I very much liked the uni/ikura appetizer, but my shrimp tempura udon lost its appeal the longer it sat, which wasn’t even that long.

My problem with TTTUNB is the existence of Raku.

Gotta go check out raku, thanks!

In the midst of a typical August summer day in Manhattan a bowl of Raku’s Yamakake Udon, made with (an off-menu request item) inaniwa udon. So fucking fantastic.

And then finish off the day at with an omakase treat at sister restaurant Kura down the street.

Bang Bang Big Apple Style.
