"West Hollywood's Russian Population Is Rapidly Shrinking" LA Weekly

I need to go visit my old neighborhood before all the babushkas and dedkos are gone.

I lived on Sierra Bonita between Santa Monica and Melrose for three years. I could walk a block or three in either direction on Santa Monica for very inexpensive and fabulous smoked fish, rye bread, pickles, frozen dumplings, and five-layer walnut cake with strawberry cream cheese frosting. Also, there was a bakery on Fairfax, just north of S.M. Blvd., that sold “danishes,” which my NY friend introduced to me. It was a an excellent food neighborhood.

Does anyone else have food memories of Russian West Hollywood (or “Little Odessa,” which I guess it’s being called now).
