Where are you going on Valentine's for dinner?

Yabu. So romantic. No?

100 hundred years! That’s pretty amazing. The place is damn near perfect and I wouldnt’ want to change a thing. Was a lovely time last night. It was full, bar was buzzing with younger folks, people having a great time. Steak was smokey as hell and this was a fantastic decision!

Muss & Frank’s

lil valentine got his favorite lullaby song as a present and how lucky for us we walked by his star after dinner.

Ended up at Puntas Cabras. A good environment for a relatively calm dinner, but the chicken mole needed more of the mole (which was delicious) and dark meat. The meat also wasn’t infused w/ mole. Halibut was a touch dry, perhaps a little overcooked, and under-seasoned.

I think I’ll be sticking w/ the taqueria and bar menu there…

It’s funny how they like the quality of the things you expose them too

I was home alone with my son, which is fine, except for that whole two hours in the ER thing. My lovely bride threatened me online with a throat punch if I spent money on overpriced meals, cards, flowers, etc. We have a date night at least once a week (benefits of joint custody) where we sit (preferably at the bar) together and share a meal and drinks.

I cooked last night. Lobster bisque from Costco…it was okay. Pan seared salmon, roasted rainbow carrots, blistered Campari tomatoes, garlic mashed potatoes, and vanilla ice cream with fresh berries mascerated with vanilla sugar, lemon juice, and lemon zest. We had champagne and made our own cocktails. It was simple and easy and we spent some time with our kids.

I saw the lobster bisque and wondered about it. So were most of the other things from Costco. I know I saw the rainbow carrots.

I asked if my fiancée wanted to have dinner together and she said no.

I hate to suggest this but she may now be your ex-fiancee’ :frowning: Or maybe you make meals about the food rather than about your love. ???

Ha…that was my response when my husband asked me if I wanted to go out for the holiday. It’s also mid-week and a rough time of year for people in certain industries…getting out can be hard.

Took myself out to Kiriko. Really mice meal highlighting the texture of different fish. Best scallop sushi I’ve had in a while almost snappy texture. Almost never get salmon sushi but I had there fantastic smoked and a wild that was leaner…

… and my vote for Best Time Spent Eating out on Valentine’s goes to @aaqjr, who ate solo. Bravo!

Salmon at Kiriko is usually excellent 'cuz Ken-san uses only in-season wild-caught salmon, and he has his own smokehouse in his backyard!!!

No big deal. We don’t typically celebrate anyway! And @J_L 8 more months :sunglasses:

Valentine’s Day

This was fun reading everyone’s Valentine’s Day posts. I like them all. Ipse’s just might be the most apropos. :relaxed:

In a span of 10 days it’s Valentine’s Day, my birthday & our anniversary. That’s a lot for someone who isn’t fond of being celebrated. My girls usually take me out for a fun lunch. But my sweetheart and I don’t have a ritual. It’s whatever strikes our fancy… and doesn’t involve me cooking. Last year we did the full on swankified Vday celebration with dinner at Chef Mori’s bar at Shiki in Beverly Hills. It was a prix fixe Vday menu, but no crowds and we had him all to ourselves. The year before it was late afternoon window shopping on 3rd St and popping in to eat at the least busy restaurant (Oysterette). This year it was…

Chef’s Choice Plate + Caviar Cheese + Duck Mousse

Manchego, Brie w/Black Truffle, Persillé de chèvre , Bresaola, Calabrese. $25. All very good, even the ubiquitous Manchego had distinction and was perfect with the fig & walnut jam. This duck mousse w/port is better than their chicken liver pâté (of course?). The assorted olives included those small, light green, mushy ones I complained about on the Charcuterie thread, but these were fresh (not jarred) and very good, indeed soft, but on purpose w/a delicate brine and buttery flavor. I’ll pay attention to the name next time. But I reiterate, they should not put this olive in jars on a shelf. :persevere: Oh and the berries were a reminder of what season is around the corner - they’re already sweet & tart.

Side note: The Louis de Sacy is grapey (but not sweet) at first open then smooths into medium-dry, fine bubbles, w/slight hints of wheat & apple. I’m not an expert but I think it has awesome QPR for grand cru ($45 & less in big stores). They didn’t have the Montaudon @attran99, but this is very, very nice.

Mr Marcel is starting to grow on me more. I’ve had some hits and misses, but the more I get to know the store and rely on the help (mostly successful and what you’re paying extra for) the more I’m digging it.

Shout-out to Alejandro & Co. once again. They did a very good job.

What’s the dollop in the middle of the eggs? Sour cream? Creme fraiche?
