that’s like every asian market with a seafood counter.

He’s got a lot of work to do.

anyone try these places? I go to penguin all the time. I went to Charlie’s years ago, never went back.

I am totally unfamiliar with these. Assuming @kevin may take a few months to publish his treatise on the subject, can you suggest a few?

I think this service is only offered at Chinese, and Chinese-Vietnamese markets.
Possibly those Filipino markets in Koreatown. Mexican markets are a big possibility as well. Never seen it offered in Korean or Japanese markets but I could be wrong.

Doesn’t Ranch 99 and Galleria do it? I suppose this could be my next project. I’m bored sussing out the best tartare (which I’ve yet to find a classic French one with onions and raw egg. But I digress…)

Ranch 99 most definitely does it!

Since I am no longer in the 626/714, the only one I know of right now is Hoa Viet in Canoga Park. The Newport Seafood on Ward/Bolsa used to do this, but based on yelp pictures it appears they have moved to full restaurant mode.

I have seen this service offered at Island Pacific markets too.

Ralph’s will do it as well.

If one buys fish from Ralph’s they fry it on the spot?

Yes. They’ll even prep your seafood for you for free as well if you want to bake it at home.

The link says they prep it for you, nothing about actually frying it. You got my hopes all up. Until I stopped and got logical.
