It’s been really great to see Cristiano Ronaldo prove his haters (including his club coach) wrong in yet another World Cup.

A bit early for that proclamation smh. Curious to see how far Portugal goes though.

Cristiano’s header today was nothing short of brilliant. His instincts told him that the cross was headed toward the post so he gave it just the tiniest touch to direct it to the corner. Not even Messi has such superhuman awareness.

He has poorly performed at ManU even under Rangnick. Messi and Ronaldo were obviously key players over the last 10 years but there are now a number of other players playing on a similar (and sometimes even better level)

Just wanna make it clear that CR7 didn’t score that goal even though he tried to take credit for it. Bruno Fernandes was the one awarded with the goal after FIFA reviewed it. Ronaldo did, however, had a hand in that goal by inadvertently distracting the goalkeeper enough while he unsuccessfully tried to head the ball. That resulted in the in-swinging cross that ended up drifting into goal. And as much as I like Ronaldo, he was pretty much invisible across both games. He played target man, stayed up top for the most part, rarely got involved in build-up, had very few touches, and made few effective runs.

Bruno Fernandes is the man of :portugal: across two games…by far.

Fascinating. Just read up on this controversy and apparently the Addidas ball contains a sensor that proved Ronaldo did not head the ball. You’re right about the distraction though.

I think the sensor is not sensitive enough. You can see a slight change in the ball rotation as it deflects from Cristiano’s head.

It’s frustrating that Portugal’s coach did not support Cristiano on this. He also tried to show Cristiano up by subbing him at the end.

 this has to be a bit, right? no one person can actually contain this precise blend of contrary opinions, can they?

If the ball touches your head, you think you would know. Ronaldo overtly claiming the goal was cringe.

Such a crafty, incredible player - and so close to the hat trick yesterday.

His entire existence is cringe

It’s a shame that Joao Felix didn’t cross the ball to Bruno for a tap-in and tried to go for glory himself…

Hope the usa can keep their 1st half form into the 2nd. Pity about Weah’s goal being disallowed.

Yes, but no denying, at his peak, he was a magnificent player.

Pretty annoyed that Gio can’t get in he is such a special player but glad we are winning
