Alexander's Steakhouse - Pasadena

Impression:

  • excellent bread basket and 3 variations of butter that keeps you going back to them
  • very good service
  • non-steak dishes ranged from good to excellent
  • prime rib was full of gristle and inedible
  • good sides with a slight twist especially for a steakhouse
  • desserts were generally poor with any sort of baked elements being quite dry

How was the NY strip?

None of the other dishes say “steakhouse” to me.

very beefy with good char on the outside but i’m not too crazy about dry aged steak in general since i prefer them to be juicer

this place is sorta like CUT on steroids in that regard

The first time I went (probably three or four years ago), we got the prime rib as well. Similar impression - quite bad. At the time they had a dessert that made quite an impression on me; something with matcha and mint. Never saw it on the menu again, and none of the other desserts wowed me.

Got the rib eye the second time. It was decent, though I’ve had similar at home.

just gotta skip steak there unless you’re going for their a5 wagyu i guess

Oy, that sounds bad.

Beautiful photos, and the butters really do sound amazing (esp the honey + wagyu fat).
