Americana Buffet Replaces Downtown Buffet in Baldwin Hills Mall

Somebody spent a lot of money remodeling the old Downtown Buffet in the Baldwin Hills Mall. Not as nice as Diamond Buffet by MacArthur Park, but probably runner up in Los Angeles af far as Chinese buffet decor goes. They also upgraded the prices by a couple of dollars–possibly all in reaction to the gentrification of the area. $9.99 for weekday lunch with 10% off for seniors. In general, standard Chinese buffet fare with some highlights, like the fried corn balls. Now I don’t have to go all the way out to Hacienda Heights to get my fill. Also the chopped up boned fish was surprisingly good, as was the chow mei fun. Not a destination restaurant, but if you’re in the area it’s worth stopping by.
