Any place to get OSECHI RYORI in la?

I hope this reply isn’t considered off-topic, since it relates to the New Year (and I don’t feel like starting a new thread for something so specific and time-limited), but JACCC is having an Oshogatsu/New Year’s fundraiser and is selling mochi kits, hard-to-find sake and wine, and barware. Pick-up only, on Dec. 29. I just placed my order for some interesting-sounding sakes and a beautiful sake set. Too bad I won’t get it in time for my Kaneyoshi holiday omakase box!

I ended up completely forgetting about this, and had to beg both Ken-san/Kiriko and Chef Ai last night to save me some scraps   :disappointed_relieved:

Just saw this, if anyone is still looking for last minute osechi:

Ended up going to Mitsuwa in Mar Vista tonight to order and prepay for the $60 Miyabi box made locally so it’s much cheaper than the boxes advertised earlier up in Ns1 ‘s post.

They also had other boxes for $25 and $30 via reservation/prepay.

The $60 Miyabi box includes all the Osechi basics along with some roasted head on shrimp.

For cooked items, Mitsuwa is a littler pricier, but I prefer their style of preparation compared to Marukai/Tokyo Central and Nijiya.

PS: No line when I got there past 7p this evening.

Update on 1/6/21: Mitsuwa’s osechi was A-ok, but not memorable – a glaring ommission was Namasu (carrot and daikon pickles). It appears a fusion dish of spicy pickled sliced octopus was used in its place (easier to prep than Namasu), but there was also a sweet and savory octopus dish so that’s one too many cephalopods IMHO.

For osechi in 2022, I’m gonna save up beforehand for Chef Ai or someone else’s version.

Wow, right in my neighborhood! Wish I’d known about her earlier. Has anyone here had her bentos?

Osechi from Mori. “30 limited quantities of this boxed set are now available for order:
$1200 (serves 3-4). Pick-up date is Dec 31, 2021 between 5pm and 8pm.”

I called Kiriko Sushi today about New Year’s Osechi dishes, but the owner chef Ken-san answered the phone and said unlike 2021, they’re only doing dine-in and no takeout for the 2022 New Year’s Day menu. Already made my rezzie, but forgot to ask about price.

I still haven’t received my stimulus check so I unfortunately had to shelve the idea of getting the $160 Osechi Bento box for 1 from Chef Ai. Her page on Tock is finally up now: Ai - Los Angeles , CA | Tock

Reviving this topic. Anything new or notable for 2023? Especially DTLA/Eastside.

I was too late last year, but got my order in early for Azay’s Osechi $50:

Never had it but I wouldn’t do KinKan’s. Heard from sources that previous ones were all bought else and repackaged.

Tamon Susih in the Miyako Hotel has osechi ryori.

Takuma in Santa Monica has osechi.

Have you had it before? Traditionally foods that don;t need cooking since it’s new year’s day and keep well in winter, i found that as a modern person expecting a meal, it was underwhelming. Also, they tend to be family-sized portions, so not great for just myself. (They don’t keep well and don’t reheat well either, mostly vegetarian).

Interesting how Nijiya’s square Osechi box descriptions have a note in small print “previously frozen.”

If you or anyone is going to Nijiya, fyi -be sure to ask a manager or an OG employee for the complimentary packet of “Toso/Otoso” (pr: “toe so”) — they’re supposed to give it out if you buy sake rice wine.

I got mine last weekend at Nijiya. Mitsuwa probably has it, same with Marukai,

It’s a packet of dried herbs and spices traditionally used on NYD by steeping it in sake and/or mirin wine. I’ll post a pic of the packet later.

Had no idea about Takuma until reading ur post.

Walked by there today and took a pic - they’re taking orders thru tonight 12/27.

I’m already set with my Azay order for this year, but bookmarking Takuma for 2024. Hopefully my BP and A1c numbers will be better by then.

2022 Wadatsumi osechi.4

My Yonsei son (4th generation JA) came home from Singapore for the holidays. This was his introduction to the jubako (tiered NY meal). I splurged and got the chirashi tier also (total $450). The empty square was more fish roe. I will order it again if they offer it in 2024. Thank you for all the information that this board has shared.
