Any sushi restaurants open for in-room dining

It’s been over a year since my wife and I have had good sushi. Thanks to board posters we’ve had good chirashi and sashimi from Kaneyoshi and Sunset Sushi. But nothing is like the real thing in person.

Are any good sushi restaurants open yet?

Sushi Masakazu (Westwood) is not joking around. Shin-san’s upscale omakase debut smashes it out of the park…

Second Shin in Encino. We did indoor omakase there in July during the interlude in lockdowns and it was very good.
Instead of sitting at the bar you sit at the table but the experience is quite similar because there is nobody at the bar.

Thank you! We have never been to Shin Sushi (because it is in Encino) but now is a great opportunity to check it out.

I wonder if Urasawa is open? I find this website comical for a number of reasons (e.g., Yelp reviews; the URL name). http://urasawa.cafe-inspector.com/

sushi zo

Thanks. I’m just not a fan of Q. I don’t love the texture or flavor of the rice, and the atmosphere feels too stuffy. I like Zo better. But to be fair, money aside, I’d eat at Q any day; obviously the quality is very high.

Uh maybe someone can correct me if they know better. However, I saw somewhere on IG that Urasawa may have actually closed permanently and the chef moved back to japan? One of the more under the radar closures of 2020.

Umeda.

sgo

they are open?

open at 25% capacity

Sorry, I realize this isn’t helpful for OP, but I’m holding out for Yoshi-san to open Kaneyoshi for indoor dining before I break that seal.

Going to give Shin a try tonight! Will report on the experience.

That’s understandable. Kaneyoshi will probably be the best sushi in DTLA given the quality of the chirashi and his work at Mori. The interior looks really nice too – feels more genuinely Japanese than Q and Zo (and Mori, for that matter).

Probably later next week they will open!

Has he hired any help yet? Want to go back but he desperately needed support.

Shin sushi reopened for indoor dining. There is no sitting at the bar but they have 3-4 tables in the dining room and one can seat facing the bar so it is almost like you are at the bar. Each course arrives immediately after it is made by Take san. Some photos are below. Highlights were Kasugo, Shiokko (baby wild kanpachi), and Isaki. We had an appetizer, about 15 nigiri, fish bone broth miso soup, one corkage ($20), one beer for a total of $297+tip. No 5% health coverage surcharges.
I include some photos but could not keep up with picture taking. Overall, it was great to eat omakase indoors, and Take san did not disappoint.
