the seafood/veggie game here is absurd. lamb chops came perfectly cooked. and the duck was a surprise winner.
I mean just look at this:

Agreed on Yakitori-ya but i do like the variety and options at Nanbankan.
In another corner of the foodernet, The Ostracized One reports that Torihei is back firing on all cylinders. Anyone been recently?
That’s great to know.
Self Ostracized, IIRC.
Something to do with mosquitoes and smog.
Didn’t like the game that was being played, took his ball and went home
and something about curry.
Sorry for distracting the conversation. In taking inventory of LA-area yakitori scene…
Joints that seem to be doing fine:
Any updates on…?
I have never been to Torigoya (Little Tokyo), but I have been seeing some Japanese Instagrammers singing its praises recently. How does it stack up to the restaurants listed above?
Torigoya got better after the dip in quality after it was sold. Helps to go with regulars who can get you the special skewers.
Torimatsu (chicken yakitori)-Gardena
? I don’t understand.
Tacomiendo for car food.
Sides of asada and adobada. I’m back on carb watch so no tortillas for me.
Tacos dorados for wifey.
Had a pile of pickled jalapeños. Missed those. The salsa bar and bean kettle was back. I was quite uncomfortable at the thought of self serve. Left hand handled the ladles, right hand stayed clean to handle containers. Then hand sanitizer on both. Too much thought involved.
Could you please provide an address for these vendors? I’ve looked on Yelp, Google Maps, and Instagram and can’t find into on this taco place. Looks damn good!
Here you go, the vendors ring around the sidewalk surrounding the parking lot. Please report back if you try the other stands.
Whats the deal with this Paradise Dynasty opening up at South Coast Plaza? Is this place good or just a gimmicky IG type of place.
Torigoya is my 2nd favorite yakitori specialist in LA. Prices are pretty reasonable and quality is consistent.
They don’t take reservations past 7 p.m. though, guessing it’s because most parties typically spend 2-4 hours enjoying themselves.
Good to know! Torigoya is much closer to me than the others I listed.
Have you tried all of the places listed? Any yakitori spots I missed?
I’ve tried all the other spots, the ones in Torrance are good, but a little too far from where I am
for me to go consistently. I think those are all the spots for Yakitori other than Hatch in DTLA (which I haven’t been to yet) and the upcoming Yardbird from HK that should be opening later this year.
