Chinois at 36

In celebration of its 36th Anniversary, for the month of September, Chinois is offering a $36 menu which starts off with an oyster shooter with ponzu gelee, a choice of the classic Chinois chicken salad or a duck pancake (1) with hoisin, a choice of salmon or Szechuan steak (5 decent sized slices) accompanied with veg. fried rice and a salad, and a choice of chocolate fondant or lemon tartlet for dessert. Everything was good and the price-point more than fair.

Had dinner at Chinois on Friday and it was excellent, as always. I knew about this anniversary menu, but forgot to ask about it, and wasn’t offered it.

That’s one of my pet peeves with Puck restaurants. They don’t offer special menus (like dineLA) unless you specifically ask for it.

That’s unfortunate. The special menu was handed to me with the regular one and my server pointed it out.

Was there again last night (oh so good), and learned the special menu is not offered on Friday and Saturday.

Sorry, I should have noted that in my post. What did you have instead?
