Coming soon to Santa Monica -- DIM SUM (?!)

PF Chang’s to be replace by Lotus Dim Sum Dumpling House:

Internet search shows an address match but nothing else. This could be… interesting.

I’ve already seen some signage outside so could be ready pretty soon.

So that’s two pieces of good news!

Getting ads now saying they’re opening next month (July 2022).

Signs up saying opening on 07/27.

Also coming to Santa Monica is Singapore’s Paradise Dynasty, but not for a year or more. Currently their only US branch is in South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa, and they’re holding up nicely against Din Tai Fung which is at the opposite end of the same mall. I personally prefer the XLB at Paradise Dynasty, and they have a much broader menu, too.

Ooh, do you know where in Santa Monica???

No idea. All I know is they were thinking about the Westside and they settled on Santa Monica.

Prices rumored to be a tad high, no big surprise for Promenade adjacent location.

Dim sum $8 and up
Har gow $10
Cheung fun $12

Hoping my source is wrong.

Well their website says they open July 27 but there’s already one Yelp review and there are menus online. And yes the cheapest item on the menu posted is $9.

C’mon, were you expecting SGV prices in Santa Monica?

There’s no way that could ever happen. I was expecting something along the lines of Chef Tony/Iron Teapot.

My bad. Cheung Fun only $11.

I’m not familiar w/ Chef Tony pricing. Is Lotus much more expensive?

its in the old pf chang’s on Wilshire and 6th or 7th

My question was referring to Paradise Dynasty. Having 2 dim sum places in Santa Monica is kind of mind blowing…

Har Gow mini survey (info scraped from web and may be up to a year old):

  • Iron teapot Culver City: $9.00
  • Elite: $6.98
  • Chef Tony Arcadia: $6.88
  • Sea Harbour: $6.88
  • Five Star (unfair, I know, but just for reference):$4.69
  • Lotus: $9-10

Sure, it’s not a ton of money but it can add up with a party of four of five.
