Costco finds

On the Off chance that one of you all live near the Woodland Hills Costco there is an incredible deal. And it’s today only

The 3 pound or whatever many pound packages of bratwursts for $2.97/pack. It’s their fresh bratwurst in the two pack. 7 sausages in each pack.

Do you think it’s only that costco?

I do not know for sure.

My usual Costco, already gearing up for Christmas even though it’s only August, had $100 gift cards for Doordash and Uber for $80.

Also 15-pound boxes of goat cubes. Would have bought except we don’t have the freezer space.

No photo but the house bakery made the best 50¢ croissant I’ve ever had.

Omigosh! I’ll have to check closely. I’d love that.

Do you steam them?

Yes steamed in a bamboo basket with parchment paper so they don’t stick.

Thanks. I’ll try them. I’ve had them at DTF and lesser places (even fixed them myself once - not worth the effort for what I got) so glad to know that these can work. And I need another box of parchment paper.

There’s parchment in the bag when you buy them.

That’s very cool (esp them hiring residents).

Yep! It’s a great location too. I can go via bike or train! If you see s shorty Mayan lady with a foldy wagon full of Costco stuff walking up La Brea, she will be me!

Fortune birria beef ramen: noodles were good, soup was really good. I cooked the freeze-dried vegetables first until they rehydrated, if I’d put them in with the noodles like the instructions said I think they would have been still partly dry. Cooked noodles for 60 seconds. Will likely buy again. Next time I’d add some shredded cabbage.

La Terra Fina quiche: would not have bought if I’d noticed they were egg whites, no yolks. Not bad but pretty bland.

Pura Vida root vegetables: basically good but need more onion, herbs, and salt.

All these were from the refrigerator cases.

The ramen package said four servings but I’d say two.

A professional baker friend recommended the Kirkland Signature organic unbleached all-purpose flour, which is made by Central Milling.

Good value at $17.50. Real old-school Bordeaux, not fruity or overripe. Too bad we can’t get raw-milk Reblochon, Brie, or Camembert.

Kirkland Pinot Grigio is a good buy at $5.

I don’t know if there’s another thread but I’ll hang this here. Our little dog is a picky eater and after a long time adding ‘lunch meat’ to his meals, we started buy the Costco chicken ($5 here). After pulling off the meat, putting in portions and freezing, I’ve now been making stock from all the leftovers including the skin and wings. A 300 degree oven for seven hours, strain, put in fridge over night, totally gelatinized and warmed just enough to liquify and then put 2C zipping bags.
