Those plastic/vinyl bags of basmati have been around for a couple years now. The problem with the potato sack style bags is that it’s very easy for vermin to get in and eat through the thin plastic bag holding the rice. These help prevent vermin. And they look nicer when trying to sell extra fancy, extra long grain basmati rice.

My “well aged” sack of basmati rice is pushing 3+ years in my pantry…
