Could we make it All-American Picnic Foods?
SALADS
ICE CREAM / GELATO / FROZEN DESSERTS
COLD SEAFOOD (NOT SUSHI/SASHIMI/POKE)
FOOD ON A STICK
ALL-AMERICAN PICNIC FOODS
What? They’re all good ideas!
You mean hot dogs and apple pie? Why not borscht or paella or hwebap or tagine or pupusas? But then that’s too broad a topic, no? Or is that not American?

Why not borscht or paella or hwebap or tagine
[/quote]Besides, they’re not picnic foods .
Says who???
Okay. They deleted that one. Too hot.
But I’ll just say, my family is pretty much mixed with everything (including black), and what we’re not mixed with we married. We’re American.
ALL-AMERICAN PICNIC FOODS
Try carrying some borscht to a picnic.
Or should I be P.C.? African-American.
NIGHT MARKET STREET FOOD
(This encompasses food on a stick, food trucks, and the ethnic delights found only at the summer Night Markets)
Gee, life sure is complicated these days.
ALL-MERKIN/GEORGE-W PICNIC?
TRADITIONAL PRE-POLITCALLY CORRECT PICNIC?
SHOW ME YOUR PICNIC BASKET AND I’LL SHOW YOU MINE?
IS WINE A PICNIC FOOD GROUP?
We can always count on you. Thanks for the levity.
Picnic food is too broad.
Let’s focus on a DISH, people, not categories that could include as much stuff as the menu of a 1960’s Jewish deli.
DELI!!
And more stupid words…
Only in the Bay Area.
Challenge accepted.
Ohhh Bookwich… stop being so rules-y. Salads but not w/grains or pasta; salads w/meat, but not too much meat; a DISH, not a category. I was just having a little fun. I really didn’t think anyone would go for picnic food, all-american or otherwise. Sorry I brought it up.
I’m not being rulesy! I am being precise and detail-oriented.
S. Freud would be having a field day with you two.
Is it theme of the Month or Dish of the Month? It seems previous months were a theme (Cheap Eats, Thanksgiving).
For theme, I nominate FOOD ON A STICK
For dish, I nominate KEBABS/KABOBS
DoTM has undergone a few iterations. We used to try to keep it “purer,” but I’ve taken a more laissez-faire approach b/c, well, life is short.
Sometimes a picnic basket is just… a can of worms.
