As we bid adieu to the summer (sort of; it’s suposed to heat up this weekend), it’s time to say hello to the DoTM for September. Perhaps something that reminds of us the bounty of Fall harvests? Or… something like that? I trust you all to be daring, creative, and possibly kind of pervy in your thought process.

Harvest is a great idea! I think I’ll hold out another month for it. Thai is good too. But my vote is REGION OF A COUNTRY, PROVINCE OR CONTINENT e.g., Northern Italy, Sichuan, Southern Thai, etc. We could nominate it, then vote on a region…
Nice idea. I think some Regions are more accessible (and easier to contribute to) than others. For example, Southern (American) cooking, is probably more understandable and easier to find restaurants for, than, say, Southern Thai. While some of the more learned eaters here know which Thai restaurants in LA are Southern Thai specialists (or which dishes are Southern Thai), perhaps many more might not know?
I guess we could take it to be an educational DOTM in that regard, if we chose a region that was specialized and most of us didn’t know much about it. That actually would be pretty neat.
But I fear it might be at the cost of lower participation if it’s a region / province that isn’t as well-known. Thanks.
@TheCookie: I’m taking a laissez faire approach to this. I totally support you nominating a region/province/etc. Your suggestion may cause other posters to vote for your suggestion or to come up w/ similar suggestions of their own. And enough people might like the idea that a region earns enough votes for a nom.
If all that comes about organically (i.e., totally w/o my intervention), then great.
I just feel that, if I “mandate” it, it’ll possibly reduce participation and make it un-fun or just simply confusing for some. And then I might hear complaints about it. And I’ve got enough complaining in my off-line life (although I’m usually the one doing the complaining! Har!) that I try to avoid it in my cyber-life.
Hi @paranoidgarliclover - Very funny. I hear ya’. Not trying to get you to mandate it. I wouldn’t do that to you . I’m just putting it as my nomination.
Waffles could be interesting. More restaurants are playing around with the ingredients. Check out @attran99’s recent post on the Whittier thread. And there’s @catholiver’s parade of hash brown waffles… yum.
