I don’t know what comfort food is. Is it food people eat when they are sad?

Comfort food reminds one of pleasant meals and snacks from childhood. Mostly calming and simple. e.g. meatloaf, mashed potatoes, mac & cheese…

It’s subjective. Even within the same culture, there are surely different definitions. I think of it as either something I grew up with that evokes a sense of nostalgia and, well, comfort, or it can be anything that you can rely on to make you feel good. Mom’s pot roast or grilled cheese and tomato soup would be examples of the former for me. French onion soup, a good bowl of ramen, or Bun Thit Nuong Cha Gio would fit that description for the latter.

Part of what intrigues me about this topic is what constitutes comfort food for others here.

Comfort food is very much dependent on the individual. Would be interesting in what people would pick.
