Oh, I get what you’re saying. But I don’t think I get distracted at all when I’m eating a McDouble. We pretty regularly do seven plus hour road trips and don’t spend time stopping to eat.
Yeah, right, if something unexpected happens and you suddenly have to brake and grab the wheel with both hands, having a sandwich in your hand won’t make any difference.
You can’t hold a small burger while having that hand on the wheel? Sheesh, you must have small hands
All research shows the opposite - and it is quite normal for people to think “they are different” than others (and can defy scientific facts). If tests show that people in general will get significantly distracted by eating while driving than it will be also the your case - why risk other people’s life for some food. (And no disrespect but you mentioned that you are older (>70 years) which means your reaction time is already slower than when compared to younger people)
My mother says the same thing about her phone. “But it’s hands-free!” I am always waiting for the call from hospital.
I realized after writing that I take a bite and put it down beside me (nooks and crannies). So you never sip a drink? Same commitment.
That’s different from navigating food, which doesn’t fit in the cup holder and also might drop stuff on you. I also take a sip every half hour or so, as opposed to eating an entire sandwich at one go.
You are making a choice to endanger other people with your behavior. You may as well just own it.
You’re full of shit. I have more than a cup holder between the front seats but even a cup holder will hold a small burger. As far as dropping stuff on me, that’s why I limit it to what I do. And if you take a sip of a hot or cold drink every half hour then it’s going to be too warm or not warm enough. So bite me.
No, I don’t drink when driving
I have a very dry mouth and never leave home without my water bottle. Drink it all day everywhere.
You could make a meal out of the petri-fries hidden in the nooks and crannies of the Gr8pimp-mobile.
Pretty sure I have 100 packets of Del Taco inferno sauce stashed in the food err… glove box.
I get it. We all want to believe we’re too smart, too capable, too careful to become a statistic. But none of us is. How much time would you lose by eating while B drives, and then switching? Maybe a minute or two? Bonus: you get to focus on your food instead of the semi changing lanes in front of you. And for the record, aside from V8 in the morning and adult beverages at night, all I drink is water. I don’t care what temperature it is.
Over time we move them into a zipping bag and into the fridge.
I know.
We stopped eating potentially sloppy foods in the car. When we take a long road trip, we will pack some nuts, dried fruits etc. Easier to handle. If we get more than snack hungry, we pull off the road…
