On tonight’s Check Please.
Me too.
Do I need to make a lunch reservation for weekdays around 11:30am?
i don’t think so
glutinous pillows
pan-seared daikon cake
har gow
steamed live scallop with garlic and black bean sauce
pork xlb
XO pan seared rice crepe roll
jumbo scallop shiu mai
crab roe shui mai
Black bean sauce spare ribs
roasted pork belly
Baked purple yam bao
Now I’m convinced.
Me too. Next visit north, that’s my first stop.
Ditto
I’ve not seen those rice crepe rolls.
Fried rice here is awesome.
I’ve tried all four types, and they’re all pretty amazing.
Will have to try that next time, thanks.
This is pretty embarrassing, but my guilty pleasure when up in SF is ordering take out here. And it’s almost always egg white fired rice and an order of BBQ pork cheeks.
With order in hand, I can’t get back to my hotel fast enough.
Nice! But why wouldn’t you want to eat it fresh at the restaurant?
Ahem, well, it’s usually a working trip when I’m up north.
jumbo scallop shiu mai
roasted pork belly salad
baked purple yam bao #purpleisafruit
I think this is what it would look like if Barney pooped out a pineapple bun.
abalone tart
this was tremendous, it tasted just like a buttery, flaky chicken pot pie, only with a tender piece of delicious abalone on top.
glutinous pillow
shrimp dumplings
pan seared daikon cake
xlb
foie gras and black truffle fried rice
unfortunately this sounded better than it tasted, the rice was surprisingly dry with no wok hei and was overwhelmed with truffle oil.
Me too!
Hi @PorkyBelly,
Nice! Glad you went back and now you’ve made me want to go again!
Bummer about the fried rice - that one you ordered wasn’t on the menu when we went, so I guess it’s a seasonal / special? - but I’ve also now determined that we should probably avoid anything that says “truffle” at Chinese restaurants. First Sea Harbour (and numerous other places) with their “Truffle Siu Mai” (fake Chinese truffles) and then Din Tai Fung and their fake Truffle XLBs.
If you get a chance try their other 2 fried rice (Gold and Silver, and the BOSS Abalone).
I will definitely try the abalone tart next time! Thank you.
Woohoooooooooooo!!! Just booked us to SF for five nights late month. You ‘kids’ have totally convinced me to try DB. It’s just two of us and we usually get five dishes. We could always get more that are MW-capable. We really never get har gow or sui mai (although their SM looks really good). Neither of us really cares for pork buns, baked or steamed. Any particular recs that you have for us. Thanks bunches.
Roasted pork belly
scallop shiu mai
Abalone tart
pan seared daikon cake
Crispy shrimp rice roll
Bless your heart And I mean that in a positive way.
