Eater East Bay 38

Mostly a solid list, no surprise since how hard is it to come up with 30-40 great restaurants here?

No Korean? Shameful. Cut out a couple of the greasy American breakfast places to make room

Shan Dong is great, especially for the price, but Great China’s dumplings are better and it’s the first place I’d send someone for shandong cuisine.

I’m skeptical about Lois the Pie Queen, from what I’ve heard from longtime fans it went way downhill.

Still no Korean? Shameful.

Funky Elephant is good but Larb Thai Food & Tapas is better.

Other places as good or better than those:

  • À Côté
  • China Village
  • Corso
  • Dyafa
  • Farmhouse Kitchen
  • Henry’s
  • Lalime’s
  • Oliveto
  • Pyeong Chang Tofu House
  • Rivoli
  • Temple Club

I agree with your list, especially Rivoli and A Cote. What do you think of Agrodolce? I had one great dinner there and then another that was disappointing, almost embarrassing.

I liked Agrodolce but if I want to go out for Italian I think of Belotti, Corso, Lucia’s, A16, Enoteca Molinari, Oliveto, Riva Cucina, Western Pacific …

Fentons? Seriously? That would be the second place I’d think of if I was putting together an East Bay Bottom 10. On top of the bad food:

Temple Club is currently closed, looking for a new location.

Bunch of places I haven’t been to or sometimes even heard of before.

Good riddance to Fenton’s.

Calling what you get at Commis “big, blowout tasting menu meal” is kind of misleading.
