Erven Restaurant, Plant Based food

Erven ervenrestaurant.com just opened at 514 Santa Monica Blvd, where RFD used to be. We’ve eaten there twice, both times for lunch. Dinner service starts Aug 5, currently breakfast and lunch. Sampled the beer batter fried tofu sandwich on a delicious LaBrea pretzel roll with celery slaw and machamantel.
It was really good, many textures, crunch chew and soft. Flavors featured pickle spices, as tofu was marinated in pickle brine and pickled veggies and celery slaw were on the sandwich. Also tried the mushroom and onion sandwich with butternut squash spread, described as Erven’s take on a philly cheese steak. Not that far fetched, and great mix of flavors, including peppers. Israeli salad was also very refreshing, and was substantial for a salad because of the beans and torn bread. DO NOT MISS THE CINNAMON ROLL. We had this twice. I don’t know if they do this in house, but it is addictive. Chili threads, mole oozing out and a great soft but resilient texture. Pictures next time. Didn’t expect it to be good enough to post.
