I’ll tell you what blows about McDonald’s. That if you want to redeem some of your points, and some of us fat asses have a substantial amount, you can’t redeem them and use one of the deals in the same visit

So oftentimes I find myself just using one of the deals instead of redeeming my points.

Can you just do like multiple visits? Like order twice?

I think you have to wait an hour.

McDonalds is the only place that does this. BK, you can do a deal and redeem.

Chick-Fil-A you can use ALL your points in one order.

Damn, Ronald, he’s just a clown!

Oh dang. Good to know!

One of our fav things used to be getting an egg mcmuffin for lunch or snack, but a year into the lockdown? A McDonalds told us that they did not serve breakfast all day anymore and implied that no one did…

I will look for the Thousand Oaks McDonalds - but will also ask our locals (Glendale/Pasadena) :crossed_fingers:

Halal Guys in Jakarta. I guess if you can make in NY you really CAN make it anywhere:

They had a couple items I haven’t seen stateside.

Had to try the burrito and wings.

The burrito was the size of a value menu Del Taco burrito but the wings were huge.

Unfortunately the burrito was bland and couldn’t even be saved by extra white sauce (which also seemed unusually bland) but it’s kind of asking a lot thinking it would be great in this neck of the woods at this price.

Wings were surprisingly excellent. Full size chicken wings, freshly fried while I was there, decent breading similar in texture to KFC and real juicy even after a car ride back to the hotel. Only two to an order but reasonably priced for the quality. Chili sauce was super weak, though. More like sweet chili ketchup. Jamie Oliver might like it.

Google is your friend!

It also helps to be a fan of Pulp Fiction.

I describe myself as “a queen of Google” but never figured that one. Thanks.

“Burnt cheese platter”?

Jack now does this. All the clown like spokespeople-thingies can piss off.

Yeah, the translations were kind of interesting in Indonesia. My first impression is that technical accuracy is not a problem (like, it’s clearly not a Google translation where things seem to be swapped word for word). Almost every single person I met from professionals to mall food court cashiers spoke English very well and generally with excellent accents but cultural understanding is somewhat lacking. Like two cheekily named restaurants we saw were “Porncakes” (a pancake/breakfast joint) and “Suck My Duck”.

It kinds of reminds me of the algorithmically generated Seinfeld script I saw a few years back using transcriptions of actual Seinfeld scripts- it has the right feel but it just ain’t right for some reason.

Witness also this bar menu we saw in Jakarta. The menu in general was quite impressive at 22 pages and including beers from places like Deschutes Brewery but a lot of the house made drinks (while excellent) don’t really make sense:

I mean, sous vide liquor? That’s kind of a thing but doesn’t really make sense in the context they have it here. Milk washing is definitely a technique but more used for mouthfeel and stripping out astringency which would not be present in that particular drink. Non-fizz drinks with egg white while the explicitly named fizz doesn’t have any, etc., etc.

As mentioned before some McDonald’s do indeed have all day breakfast. This location is on victory Boulevard at Kester in Van Nuys

I wondered about that. Maybe it’s “understood.”

I will have to get a power breakfast at like 10pm* at this location and see what’s up

*not today

Wasn’t sure if I should post this since I didn’t have a chance to actually eat it but what the heck. Seen at KFC in the Jewel at Changi Airport (Singapore):

How’s about that for a (chicken) filet o’ curry hash brown?!

Didn’t have time or stomach space to try since we had about a three hour layover and we had to go out immigration and then back in to our gate. They definitely didn’t have this item in Indonesia where we spent the previous week and a half because I checked out every fast food place I saw for regional specialties.

We also saw but didn’t try or even get a picture of Subway serving rendang sandwiches in Jakarta. I didn’t realize I had a line I wouldn’t cross but that just bummed me out.

So I got some coffee at this location this morning. Unfortunately the morning crew did not know.

One of them said that they may not because it takes longer to make hashbrowns than it does to make fries.

I’ll have to come back at night and force the issue, maybe just looking at an angry fat Jew will intimidate them

JitB has $2 onion rings via app. They have been consistently superior to McDonalds fries every single time as of late.
