Fiona [Fairfax]: A Pictorial Essay

So we had a nice first visit and really enjoyed the beef stew and bread. Duck noodle soup was also good. Potato pancake very nice. Choco pie great. Most fun though was my strict vegan friend’s agony of not being able to order anything since they make NO substitutions, even dressing on the side. I don’t care myself. His food issues are absurd. The place is better for me as a bakery and lunch spot though, in that sense it’s a draw. But to go out to eat there frequently I don’t know, isn’t going to beckon me. It’s no pine and crane (that’s the closest reference point I have for their style, setup, aesthetic

Fiona closing. Despite all the mostly positive press… tough to run business in LA.

guess that explains why Shawn left. Nice of her to give respect to Sergio too.

Restaurant business is tough - I bet she could make a killing slanging pies via Postmates though - B2B + B2C.

Brutal… I live across the street and didn’t go very much…
Price point was a little too high for what you were getting IMO.

Just went by today. RIP. I’ve never had a better baguette

Never? Or do you mean just in LA?

Try the frozen ones from Surfas. Worth the trip over alone…

I really like the ones at Surfas, but my partner says they cut the roof of her mouth too much.
We’ll give it another try though, thanks!
Otherwise I think our only other option is Republique? (Which imo is inferior to what I could get at Fiona)

(edit: thank you @Hungrydrunk for sharing the info. I go to g & b whenever I work but never walk through gcm and wouldn’t have notice F + F)

A bunch of random quick shots! I work near gcm and have been able to stop by today and Saturday.

Nicole is so cool. I loved fiona, happy to see her moving forward.

We have snickerdoodle, chocolate and oat, chocolate peppermint pie and key lime pie.

Fantastic news, thanks for the photos! Do you remember the pricing? If my memory serves, a slice of key lime at Fiona was $8.

Ignore

$7 slice / $42 whole pie today (key lime, chocolate peppermint, lemon meringue). Nicole actually said that she’ll be there for the foreseeable future. Good for me since I work near GCM as well, but so much for new year’s resolution…

@chrishei you are correct!

Saturday slices were $6 and cookies $3

My total today was $20 before tip so personal pie and slice must each be $7, with cookies still being $3 a piece

Rucker is doing banana cream pie starting tomorrow FYI. Of course I won’t be working in downtown the next few days. Might make an excuse to wander/drive over…

FYI, Chef Rucker is launching a Kickstarter to make her GCM pop-up a permanent thing.

At ~$40 per pie
Not taking into account inflation to recoup $10k you’d need to eat a pie per month for 20 years (technically 12.5 pies per year)
That’s a lot of pie
