Half Moon Bay

Finally made it to Sam’s Chowder House, which used to get talked up on Chowhound.

New England clam chowder (small $9.50) was a bit lacking in clams and clam flavor, especially given the place’s name. Not bad but wouldn’t order again.

Blue crab (not Dungeness, even though it’s in season) and shrimp Louis ($26) had a very, very generous portion of seafood but was way short on lettuce and we had to ask for more dressing. Cucumbers are fine, but what are apples and radishes doing in a Louis? Where do you get a great Dungeness crab Louis around here these days, anyway?

Halibut with sauteed mushrooms and Brussels sprouts ($34) was good.

So was the key lime pie ($9), though it tasted like regular lime to me (fine with me) and it didn’t need the lime syrup.

Great view. Good service. Outdoor seating looked nice (was a little too cold for us).

Next time I’d go to Barbara’s Fishtrap.
