Homestead - Piedmont Ave

Finally got around to trying this place Tuesday night. Most places on the street are closed by 9 if they’re open Tuesdays at all.

Complimentary house-made bread was first-rate even by Berkeley standards. Definitely will encourage return visits.

Puntarelle & sunchoke salad was great. Grilled endive was sort of the reverse of the usual dish: cheese and ham were on the bottom, my guess is they put that in the salamander first, then the endive went on top so it didn’t cook much.

Duck and mushrooms were great. Salad was good though a bit astringent given how wine-friendly the duck was.

Menu prices include service, no tip line on the bill. So the $37 duck was the equivalent of $31 on typical menus, excellent value.
