Really shows what a ridiculous amount we pay here for inferior products. The lens industry is such a scam for consumers.
Luxottica sends its regards.
Youāre not the only one. I donāt get it. I also donāt get Trader Joes.
I totally donāt get TJ - mediocre shop with mainly low quality (produce, cheese etc) or highly processed food
You must not have children. Costco makes a ton of sense for anyone providing for more than their spouse.
TJs is good for a few things including snacks, quick meals for small families and surprisingly, orchids.
But the price is pretty fair for the quality for many of the items (IMHO).
The few times we tried stuff from them the quality was so disappointing that the prices werenāt great
I donāt buy the sad produce at Trader Joeās or highly procesed food anywhere. A lot of their products suck (their tortilla chips are remarkably bad) but they have good prices on some high-quality items including crackers, Belgian chocolate, nuts, peanut butter, roasted peppers, toum, frozen pizza made in Italy, Greek olive oil, some cheeses, house-brand āPain Pascalā levain from La Boulangerie (some parts of the SF Bay Area only), bar soap, deodorant, and toothpaste.
Trader Joeās has been through many changes. It began IIRC in something called Pronto Markets which the founder envisioned as a meld between a liquor store and a health food store. Signs of this remain to this day. Now the liquor element is more focused on budget wines.
TJ is good for flowers and nuts.
so true - been burned way too many times by that shite
So true on the tortilla chips haha. Horrific.
Trader Joeās has great prices on some first-rate hard liquor, especially around Christmas when its selection expands. Wines ā¦ generally whatās good isnāt cheap and whatās cheap isnāt good, but there are some good values, e.g. Vinho Verde and Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc.
Yeah. It depends on the item of course. I donāt buy all my produce there (especially since I have access to a Super King recently), but generally find that they have the best prices and quality for items likeā¦
ā Workhorse Tomatoes (Compari and Mini San Marzanos)
ā Crimini Mushrooms (sometimes Shiitake)
ā Shallots (Some places donāt even carry them UGH!)
ā Bagged Baby Kale
ā Steamed Lentils
ā Pomegranate Seeds
ā Teeny Tiny Avocados
They also have some unique seasonal items, like the Baby Corn and Cole Slaw Mix (the best one in the market).
TJās was the only reliable place I was able to find fiddlehead ferns (many years ago). Canāt find them any longer
Fiddleheads have a short season and are imported from the East Coast. Interesting that Trader Joeās would carry them, thatās really not the kind of thing Iād expect from them.
i saw fresh fiddleheads last night at the whole foods on crescent in beverly hills.
