January 2020 Rundown

Looks interesting, what other foods do they sell at Azay?

It’s Japanese and French. Not fusion. One side of the menu is Japanese and the other side is French. My friend had the Boeuf bourguignon, which she found tasty and looked great. I had the Japanese side of the menu. Reasonable prices for lunch. My chawanmushi was $5, the soup $7 and the boeuf $16.

Thanks for the details, will have to check it out!

Goat’s Milk and Peach from Bulgarini! So good especially swirled!

Macisa (shoulder), Cuero (skin) and Mixed (shoulder, belly, skin) tacos from Carnitas el Momo. The salsa verde made it’s way on as well as did some peppers from the back tables.

… Continued from December 2019 Rundown

Thanks for the assistance @joy @js76wisco @ebethsdad

So, Brent’s Northridge tonight. Naturally I ended up with the pastrami Reuben. LOL, because I’m so adventurous and can never be accused of being a creature of habit. Yeah, butter, rye and meat. How horrible.

Wifey got the matzoh ball soup (cold and windy over in Northridge)…

…and a corned beef Rueben.

We each ate a half and the other halves are going to be donated to our huge “kid” (ok, he’s full grown)

The bastards seated me facing the front of the damn carousel of carbs. Though, after the dinner i ate,I guess it didn’t really matter LOL. But it was kind of hypnotic.

PS and off topic: This post was way too much work. I think the iPhone is the biggest piece of shit ever invented. Thanks crApple.

Tacos Don Cuco

How did you like Don Cuco? I am curious about them and also El Viejon. The tortillas look a little on the thin side

I like them but the thin tortillas, though pliant, doesn’t have the softness that thicker ones bring and the corn flavor gets lost too. Think poor man’s tire shop taqueria.

Ah a fellow curmudgeon! I too hate smartphones. Glad you gave in to the Black Pastrami Reuben. One of my favorite sandwiches. As with you a half fills me up. Apart from Langers if you ever find yourself in Ann Arbor, MI I highly recommend Zingerman’s Brooklyn Pastrami Reuben.

Wax Paper Chinatown.

I like it. I love the shitty hole in the wall look of this place and there is counter seating!!! Any chance there is a counter seating I absolutely love it…Apple Pan, Langers, Nicks Cafe on Chinatown-Lincoln Heights border.

I got the Ira Glass and a side of peas-carrots. It’s a pretty good vegetarian sandwich and the peas-carrots had a nice bright and sesame flavor.

While the bread and veggies were good, something to me was missing from the sandwich…very slightly on the dry side and a little acid would be nice to brighten it up. I’ll have to try the other sandwiches! But not bad

Jade Wok in Chinatown. The House Special Tofu. 2 big slabs of housemade tofu with sauce. It’s better to eat it there. It is also only $8!!!. Get also the small Shanghai pork ribs, the shrimp and scrambled eggs, and whatever Chinese greens are fresh that day and you got yourself a damn good solid meal. It’s my favorite tofu dish and it also can be made vegetarian. (I still love Raku and Beverly Soon’s tofu offerings!)

Say hi to my friends Bruce and Vincent

Roma Market. Nice sweet Italian Grandpa holding it down here in the Dena. I love Italian markets! Head to the counter and grab this sandwich. It is only like $5 something!!! Salami, cheese, and olive oil. Simple and delicious! Maybe treat it as an appetizer and amuse before Bulgarini.

Doc Browns House!!!

Golden Deli San Gabriel.

Yup those egg rolls are freakin ridiculously good. The herbs and veggies were pristine. One of the Uncles asked if I needed more after I finished my herbs/veggies with 2 rolls left…say what!

Vietnamese food in SGV…Golden Deli’s egg rolls and the small handful of Northern Pho specialists are what’s better than Little Saigon. Banh Mi My Tho is okay.

@JeetKuneBao This is an impressive haul…did you do this all in one shot?
Our oldest chowpup loves Roma’s Sandwich…it’s always a pre-cursor to a trip to Leo’s.

I sure did! That was a span of hours and I didn’t eat much the day before.

The kids have such good tastes already!

Yes and yes. The best version of one of my favorite sandwiches, and I’d probably post more if it wasn’t such a pain in the ass to do it on my phone.

Hi @moonboy403,

Nice! You should have them roll up the Chapulines into your HK Cafe Steamed Rice Rolls!
