Grew up with it at all temps, though on special occasions the Moms would make a point of serving it fairly hot (and having it cold for leftovers). Imo, serving it hot makes the sesame oil more fragrant esp if you make a point of using the good stuff, though it could be beside the point.
Hojicha Latte at Heavy Water. I am pretty sure bubbles is not a good thing right? This was pretty watery no texture at all. Should have went to Aquarela down the street.
Absolute banger of a meal at Etra, first time there, table of 6, ran the whole menu, very good QPR. Made me feel better about this mess of a city for a night.
Not much to say about cafe 2001 that hasn’t been said except I would like to check out more of the menu. Also love the Art and going, makes me curious to try Yess
My favorite falafel pita sandwich. They have expanded since my last visit. Always get it with the fried veggies, all the veggies, garlic spread, and tahini
Very good tuna tostada
Buttermilk fried quail had delicious crunch/breading and sauce. A few more of the pickles or maybe a squeeze of acid would’ve catapulted it but still good.
The fancy gringo tacos with crispy shells and shredded cheese were delicious.
Duck mole - excellent mole, fat could’ve been rendered a bit more/had some flab but was mostly great and really loved the sauce
Pumpkin spice tamale - really tasty.
A relatively inexpensive meal and a good vibe in there. I’ll probs return eventually
Pretty solid and very nice crew. Liked the thinness of the flour tortilla and the char on the asada. Overall very haimish, comfort food. Can’t compare to Tacos La Carreta but Boyle Heights is way more convenient for me.
Partner was in the Pasadena area and decided to get some croissants from Car Artisan Chocolate. Can’t recall if we had tried them yrs ago or if they were all sold out by the time we got there.
Excellent birria de chivo with a consommé that rivals any top place on the listicles I’m not really a birria person but this is one that I would come back to get.
Having spent much of the holiday season under the weather, I wanted to enjoy something fun and Chef James Shugishita just happened to be delivering in close to my ‘hood one weekend.
What a treat!
Makes up for the fact that I missed out on some of the holiday offerings I usually get to partake.
The regular bentos are just lovely. Executed beautifully and super tasty.
