Product placement really is egregious in Korean dramas, and there seems to be no attempt at integrating products naturally. I sometimes wonder if the producers consider this a form of honesty.
But I have little doubt that Subway does indeed taste better in Korea. Every crappy US chain that I’ve tried in Asia is just head-and-shoulders above our domestic versions. I used to think it was like the unpopular kids rebranding thenselves when they move to new schools. But then why don’t they bring these strategies back to the States? Maybe the market conditions are just fundamentally different. I guess we get the food we deserve.
