Little Saigon Adventures

Yeah I went once when the line at Pho 79 was just too damn long. Nice little place, though the “everything wagyu” conceit means even a small bowl is like $20 (not that everything else isn’t edging in that direction anyway but still) and I don’t know that the complexity of the broth really warrants that. I guess it is a matter of what you’re looking for, as I did think that the beef was noticeably high quality than at your average spot, I just frankly find that secondary to the rest of the components of the soup.

Obviously super easy bang with Cococane.

I believe that some form of pork specialist (maybe a butcher but Yelp photos also show some cooked sausage and the sign outside said something about beer accompaniments?) has opened next to Ba Le. Had to be in and out so didn’t get a chance to check it out.

Phoholic, Little Saigon location

One of the top bowls of pho. Would still put Pho Akaushi (Uncle Tom), and Pho 79/101 ahead. Very generous bowl. 17 different meat combinations. Parking is a pain the ass. Park by the school. Quan Mii is in the next plaza over for banh xeo rolls

Bake and Che

New che spot at fast and furious plaza. A little more accessible if you are not familiar with Vietnamese desserts. Sweet and friendly bilingual college kids. English menu with list of ingredients.
Got the dac biet. Next turn l try the grass jelly and pandan. Also true to the name they have mung bean, and taro cakes that were sold out.

I wonder how many rolls does Brodards sell in a year? Also has anyone figured out that dipping sauce? @hppzz

How was the banh xeo? I haven’t had it in years

Yup. There was line when I went.

Do you go to DaVien? I see they have the Hanoi egg coffee.

Hard to say it wasn’t hot when we got it since I took it to go. I like how they you a large aluminum tray that’s open in a plastic bag to make sure it doesn’t steam or get too soggy. Also like the rice paper to make rolls.

I throughly enjoyed it reheated but it’s been a minute since I’ve had a bun xeo.

I like this place and vans a lot for it.

Brodard probably sells millions a year lol

Yeah, closer to me than Phin Smith and I think it’s 90% as good. Gotta be in the mood for the egg coffee because it’s a massive sugar bomb (More even than your usual ca phe sua da)

90% as good for egg coffee, or just in general? I didn’t see egg coffee on Phin Smith’s menu, but if it is on the menu, I’ll happily be going to check it out. :grinning:

I enjoy the Hanoi egg coffee at Da Vien. Take that for what it’s worth, though, as I’m not an expert. I’ve only had egg coffee at two places in the US, but Da Vien was the clear winner for me as between the two.

In general; I don’t think it has made its way to the Phin Smith menu board yet

The nem nướng sauce from brodard is very good version found commonly around nha Trang in the khanh hoa and ninh hòa provinces (two restaurants in the sgv nem nướng ninh hoa and nem nướng Khánh hoa).

It’s basically a rice porridge and meat sauce.

There’s rice and meat in that nem nuong Cuong sauce?

I thought it was fish sauce and pineapple?
