Marden’s Chicken Rice by Simon Tan

Okay, I’m not even going to post my pics of Simon’s Chicken Rice. They’re so fugly compared to JL’s and PorkyBelly’s :joy:. With the disclaimer that I’m a friend and as someone who lived in Singapore and ate a ton of Chicken Rice, this chicken rice is austere and succulent. The soup deserves it’s own thread. Simon’s CR matches the style of my beloved Yet Con on Purvis Street which sadly closed in February :pensive:. The chili sauce is crazy good. I always find myself in want for a Ball jar of Simon’s chili sauce which his Baba Chee Chye may have taught him or at least it’s a very close match. Now, I don’t have to beg friends to bring home the Putien sauce I long for. Don’t forget to order the soup. It’s a must.

I was just saying that! if you ever order again please let me know since I think we live in the pasadena area and we hardly ever get to the west side but can pick up from Pasadena if you ever order.

Not around for the 25th, but I UBER A fair amount of my orders. Works beautifully.

Sounds like a legendary meal made by a specialist soon to become a legendary specialist.

I, unlike @PorkyBelly, did not bring my own ceramics, so instead here is a shot of everything pre-assemblage.

The chicken was nice and tender, but what really blew me away were the sauces. Holy cow that soy was nice and thick, and oh that chicken jus? Unreal.

Westsiders are lucky to have Simon Tan on their side of the city.

The bouncy texture of that skin is also what makes it :sparkling_heart:.

While I understand your extraordinary enthusiasm and support for the other restaurant, it is completely inappropriate to lump them together in this discussion, whether here or on other social media platforms. Not to mention they are two completely different restaurants. And it makes me legitimately wonder why the need to compare or inject them at every turn

we had ours too - made our weekend. overall, everything is superb, nearly flawless. but i must say i’m most impressed by the care Simon took to prepare the condiments. such authenticity, freshness, and balance of flavors. and that soup! so much collagen and yet tasting so ‘clean’.

the west side has gained a new star.
