May 2016 Weekend Rundown

My poor dad always wants to have fish and chips here, but is consistently rebuffed by my aunts and mom who exclaim Greek chorus style, “It’s too greasy!” Since it was Father’s Day, he finally had his wish fulfilled without familial intervention.

Poor dads, indeed. My dad lives under the culinary dictatorship of my mom and aunts. On the way home from a business meeting in Orange County, he got “lost” and ended up buying lunch at Popeyes. My mom chided him to no end for ignoring her packed lunch, which contained a turkey sandwich, nuts, a tangerine, and water.

My mom worked graveyard shift most of her life and always tried hard to make lots of tasty and nutritious meals ahead of time for the family. That meant lots of pre-planned meals that didn’t always satisfy my dad’s current itch. Because of that situation, a lot of times after mom left for work, I learned the fine art of late night spontaneous quickly cooked dish such as bacon garlic fried rice with a fried egg on top or the fun guilty pleasure of making a late night ice cream or fast food run such as a bean and cheese burrito or chili cheese fries from the local taco stand.

Yep… We’re just trying to keep them healthy and prolong their lives. But, reading your posts makes me realize… It’s nagging!

P.S. I love Popeyes Red Beans & Dirty Rice. All in moderation.
