a couple pieces yes lol, but most were ok. sundae was pretty gimmicky but was actually the best thing. none of the nigiri were particularly stand out, and yes they use sakasyu as their supplier.
That pita looks AMAZINGā¦
LA Record Fair this Sunday in the Arts District.
Any recs for Arts District, Little Tokyo, Chinatown, Lincoln Heights, Boyle Heights, and Smorgasburg? Nothing fancy rather use that money that day on vinyl.
Havenāt had Carnes Asadas Pancho Lopez for carne en su jugo.
birria el jaliciense on olympic - last time i went, the consomme was insanely good
My favorite spots!
Azteca Tortilleria for Chile Relleno Burrito (remember you can add meat to them too!)
Georgeās burger stand (amazing pastrami burger and Onion Rings. Also amazing breakfast burrito and McDonalds style Hashbrowns. They have parking.)
Maragume Monzo (Still awesome and affordable)
Moos (For their burger! Skip the Brisket Sandwich)
I havenāt been, but maybe you can do some recon for us in the Arts District at: https://www.instagram.com/mar_es.la/.
Also there are a ton of good food truck options along Olympic east of the river, starting just east of Soto. Tacos y Birria La Unica, Mariscos Jalisco, Carnitas Los Dos Chingones, Los Originales Tacos Arabes de Puebla, and more. If you find yourself over there and are a tequila/mezcal fan, you should take a stroll through the Ramirez Beverage Center on Olympic.
At Smorgasburg, might be worth checking out III Mas (https://www.instagram.com/iii_mas_bbq/?hl=en). I havenāt had their stuff at Smorgasburg, but did pick up from them a few times during the pandemic and always enjoyed.
This reads like an opening line in a novel.
Saturdays only never had birria straight off the bone. Will definitely put that on the to-do list.
Never had Mooās but I see a few people on here recommend that burger!
Georgeās is so good. I had their burgers and chili cheese fries. I think I might have to try that breakfast burrito. I adore these type of places just a pure So Cal spot. Nothing else like it.
sunday bar pie at quarter sheets
III Mas definitely catches my eye. Food wise the only thing I really enjoyed at Smorgasburg was Ugly Drum Pastrami. I just want simple things done well I donāt need rainbow this rainbow that crazy photogenic forced fusion food.
I really need to try Quarter Sheets and read thru the Quarter Sheets thread.
Bar pie copy. What else is the move?
last time I was there-- my favorite thing ( bread could be better tho)
Not sure what heās cooking up but the pita is delicious and of the skewers his swordfish is my favorite if heās got that going.
bar pie add sausage, slice of pep, princess cake.
bang bang with prd to make it perfect
Smorgasburg quality waxes and wanes as vendors come and go. I do like Evil Cooks, Goat Mafia, iii mas, be bright coffee, and smoke queen. But I miss the days of Bridgetown Roti, Ugly Drum, Mooās, etc.
Is there a place to get really good soft serve ice cream, like with Hokkaido milk?
Wanderlust has a seasonal Hokkaido Milk Ice Cream. Had it last year, it was very good. Not sure when the season is, I think it was during a cold monthā¦
Courage Bagels. Finally got to try it. Slightly peeved at a car-less customer standing at a spot on Virgil āholding itā. Told her,āhey you canāt do thatā after she gave me the Dikembe Mutumbo finger wave.
Anyways the sliced salmon is pretty spectacular. The garden was a little too busy and in retrospect I should have got the tomato. The msg and sweet fat would have played nicely for my taste buds.
Itās the weekend mornings so there is going to be a line for bagels. Same as NYC. You can enjoy all types of bagels just like pizza types.
Itās better than any nova bagel I had in NYC. But as far as the fish it canāt beat Russ and Daughters, Zabarās, and Barneyās Greengrass. But those places have pretty bad bagels but great fish like Katz has great pastrami but horrible bread. Courage Bagels are on the lighter side vs NYC as far as actual bagels.
I think thatās a fair take.
