perfect weather for Saturday & Sunday. Griffith Observatory and some deco / streamline sightseeing around Silverlake.
Burgers Never Say Die.
I’m not a big smashburger guy, but this was good. Nicely proportioned.
Antico Nuovo
Overall pretty good. Good and efficient service. For the price I’d probably rather go to Funke, though I can imagine a good meal here depending on the order.
Small annoyance, but the champagne was mislabeled on the menu as Clos Cazals when really it was just Claude Cazals. Still fine though, drank decently and I had no problem with it at the table even if it was a little bit pricey for the latter (and would’ve been a pretty good price for the former).
Foccacia with duck liver and saba. Excellent pate - very airy, fine, and sweet.
Foglie with squab, olives, and crackling. Good chew on the pasta, sauce was pretty good. Not pictured - the pappardelle with beef cheek and veal tongue ragu. Both pretty good, though I expected maybe a little more from the pastas.
Sweetbread with maitake and marsala. Pretty good, decently sized sweetbread.
Seada. Filled with pecorino and topped with orange blossom honey, unnecessarily done tableside. Quite salty and pretty savory, so maybe more of a pre-dessert. Pretty good, and though I wanted a meltier or runnier cheese for an easier texture, I guess this is Sardinian and I haven’t tried it elsewhere.
Honeycomb ice cream. Excellent. Maybe a swirl to integrate the honey would be nice since the ice cream is pretty dense but melty.
Found Oyster
Very good oysters, nicely shucked. Small Sicilian crudo was OK - salmon cuts were little strips.
Broiled oysters with espelette butter - excellent.
Fried oysters. Really good. Didn’t need the sake lees in the mayo, imo.
Pork schnitzel with radicchio caesar. Pretty good. Fair amount of dill and parsley. With the right amount of anchovy it was quite tasty.
Lobster bisque roll. Pretty good - didn’t need the serrano chiles in it, imo.
