November Weekend Run-down (2015)

<e lost too, WTF is PFC?

Popeye’s Fried Chicken was my first, incorrect, thought.

Going with the #54 instead of #10 these days. Light Russian, curbside.

Thursday - Catch and Release - I think, maybe, the chef was released. Everything was ho-hum at best.

Friday - Wadatsumi by Harikawa - solid as always

Saturday - pre-gig Beef Rolls from (Culver City) 101 Noodle Express as my band was setting up at the Tattle Tale Room

Sunday Lunch - Gjusta Prime Rib Butcher - baguette, horseradish - AMAZING sandwich, also great Octopus Escabeche, and Squash

Sunday post-movie - The Backhouse on Pico for a snack…what a dreadful place.

Awesome @CiaoBob. I was curious about that sandwich. I’ll have to try it on my next visit to Gjusta. It looks amazing.

Was the Octopus Escabeche a special for the day? Or in their deli / salad case? Don’t remember seeing it before.

the three times I was there so was the octopus
yes, in the deli/charcuterie case

the octo escabeche is in the same case as the smoked/cured fish products - usually in a shallow pan on the top shelf. Very tender - wish it had a little more grill or smoke on it, but it’s very good just the same.

PFC = ?
DTSA = ?
PMT in MBMC ribs

Abbreviations can be hit or miss with me. So I thought I’d inquire. A5KOBE was going vintage-lite TonyC on me with acronyms/abbreviations but I think I was able to eventually decipher.

ipse and A5KOBE probably would have put me out of my misery if they had my address, given my irritatingly slow hop-along intellect.

“WTF?” was my 1st thought w/ the abbreviations. :wink:

Although I think “MBMC” = “Maple Block Meat Co.” No idea what “PMT” is, though.

Went to Plan Check DTLA on Saturday for their Gudetama-inspired special which is here for only this month. Gudetama is Sanrio’s newest character and is basically a lazy egg. The special is three courses plus an orange-ginger egg cream soda and a T-shirt for $39.

The menu.

Plan Check was swamped with people wanting the special so the kitchen was very backed up. The appetizer and sliders came out at the same time. The appetizer is basically a Japenese version of a Scotch egg.

The sliders come with Gudetama eggs and it was pretty satisfying smothering him with the top bun then pressing down until his yolks split, spilling his guts down the side of the sliders.

Dessert was a chocolate mousse/pudding with an apricot thumbprint cookie dusted with powdered sugar to look like an egg.

that is so cute

Certainly cute, however, was that enough to make the meal worth ~$50 for essentially eggs, burgers, and pudding?

Is this lazy egg a food character of some sort? Street Art related (I seem to have driven by murals featuring him)?

you forgot the T-shirt. That’s $25. So the meal is $25, a bargain for Plan Check. Sorta.

I suppose so, but you’re forced to buy the t-shirt right? So it doesn’t feel so much part of the meal to me haha

No, the T-shirt is included in the $39 so the meal is only like $24 (assuming a $15 shirt).

Friday: Lodge Bread in Culver City
Saturday: The Smoking Ribs in Garden Grove
Sunday: Pitchoun, GCM, Clifton’s and Little Jewel
